Fundamentally a rock music venue, the Voodoo Lounge also programmes a mix of metal, punk and other musical genres. It regularly hosts gigs from touring acts and club nights featuring a range of DJs, and occasionally holds events related to the arts. The Lounge has become a hub over the years for Dublin’s diverse and alternative crowd.
The venue opened in 2013 in the Arran Quay, Smithfield district of Dublin city, along the banks of the River Liffey. The quays are famed for providing inspiration to many local artists over the years, providing a fitting location for the Lounge. Inside, the intimate, grungy interior bares candles, supernatural paraphernalia, and eerie accessories, living up to its black magic name. Singer of Fun Lovin’ Criminals, Huey Morgan, formerly owned the joint, which is reportedly the reason behind it serving pizza slices to gig-goers. Besides acting as a place to hear up-and-coming artists, the Lounge is also a cafe and bar, and a great place to source beers to accompany your pizza.
