Show Biography

Based on the magical Disney film at the center of everyone's childhood is the Tony Away winning musical, The Lion King, brought to life on stage with theatre regular George Asprey (Chicago, Pride and Prejudice) as Scar, and New Zealand’s prominent junior rugby player come tenor Nick Afoa (The Lion King – Australian tour) as Simba.

Director Julie Taymor is the mastermind of the production, having won the 1998 Tony Award for Best Direction of a Musical and for Best Costumes for The Lion King. She is behind every facet of the musical, overseeing costume design, mask/puppet design and additional lyrics, ensuring to bring the most enjoyable and enchanting experience, fully transporting you into the magic of the Serengeti.

The beautiful colours of the innovative set design, paired with the evocative beats of the music perfectly capture the feel of the African Plains, helping you to become a part of Simba’s tale. Watch as the young lion cub struggles under the mantle of future King of Pride Rock, becoming cut off from his family and narrowly escaping death.
