See Motown: The Musical at the Mayflower Theatre

An 18 piece orchestra playing over 50 Motown classics? What more could you ask for from a night out? And that's not even all this fantastical musical has to offer. The performance tells the story of Motown founder Berry Gordy who is inspired to become a music mogul after he watches an iconic boxing match and turns his attentions to being the best version of himself possible, with just $800 dollars to his name and a whole lot of ambition. If the tunes don't have you dancing, the inspiration certainly will.

About

Anyone who’s ever seen a West End musical in Southampton will probably have paid a visit to the Mayflower Theatre. The Mayflower Theatre is the largest theatre on the South Coast of England, priding itself on hosting a wide variety of touring productions including musicals, dance, opera, drama and comedy. The Grade II listed Mayflower benefits from both its size and its central location as it can be found right at the heart of Southampton city centre. Boasting an astonishing 2,270 capacity, at the time of its construction in 1928 it was the largest theatre in the south of England, a title it still holds today. The Mayflower is a proudly independent not-for-profit venue, investing all its ticket sales back into the theatre’s upkeep and its community and education programmes. With the hottest musicals such as Wicked, The Lion King, Shrek! the Musical, and Mary Poppins passing through in recent years, the Mayflower remains a highlight stop of any touring show.
