Anyone who’s ever seen a West End musical in Southampton will probably have paid a visit to the Mayflower Theatre. The Mayflower Theatre is the largest theatre on the South Coast of England, priding itself on hosting a wide variety of touring productions including musicals, dance, opera, drama and comedy.
The Grade II listed Mayflower benefits from both its size and its central location as it can be found right at the heart of Southampton city centre. Boasting an astonishing 2,270 capacity, at the time of its construction in 1928 it was the largest theatre in the south of England, a title it still holds today.
The Mayflower is a proudly independent not-for-profit venue, investing all its ticket sales back into the theatre’s upkeep and its community and education programmes. With the hottest musicals such as Wicked, The Lion King, Shrek! the Musical, and Mary Poppins passing through in recent years, the Mayflower remains a highlight stop of any touring show.
