Lauryn Hill is a figure of legend in the music industry. Rising to fame as a member of the hip-hop group Fugees in the early 90s, Hill released her only solo album to date, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, in 1998. Now Lauryn is back on tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the album’s release. Hill was born in the US state of New Jersey in 1975, attending Columbia High School in Maplewood. She was a high achiever at Columbia, founding the school’s gospel choir and acting in her spare time, and was invited by her classmate Pras Michel to start a band which later became Fugees. With Pras’ friend Wyclef Jean soon joining the pair, Fugees released two records, Blunted On Reality (1994) and the Grammy Award-winning The Score (1996) before splitting up in 1997. After starting a relationship with Bob Marley’s son Rohan Marley and giving birth to her first child, the 23-year-old Hill soon released The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, a critical and commercial smash which became one of the most influential neo-soul and hip-hop albums of all time. Quickly tiring of her new-found fame, Hill retired from the public eye and has only sporadically recorded and made live appearances since. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to see Hill in the flesh.
