The award-winning musical from Disney has become one of the most successful shows of Broadway and the West End. Based on the 1994 animation, it reimagines the story of Simba with groundbreaking creatives and Tony Award-winning direction. The Lion King musical has now sold billions of dollars worth of tickets across the world, and continues to be a staple of the West End programme. The stage adaptation of The Lion King made waves when it first opened at the Orpheum Theatre in Minnesota in 1997. It powerfully brought the characters and the Serengeti Plains to life, breaking barriers in the world of theatre. The Lion King musical travelled to Broadway and later the West End – and has now been seen by over 95 million happy theatre-goers! Acclaimed director Julie Taymor has been praised for directing and designing the show. Her unique vision transformed the beloved children’s classic into an astonishing theatrical experience. Expect to see imaginative puppetry, inspired mask designs and spectacular special effects . Taymor won a handful of awards for her tireless dedication to The Lion King. Her accolades include a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Costume Design and Tony Award for Best Musical and Best Direction of a Musical. The show itself has won over 20 awards, spread across its creative team and cast. Today, her legacy lingers on as The Lion King continues to sell out venues across the globe. The musical revisits the evocative and emotive spirit of Africa. Beyond the innovative costumes and sets, the soundtrack to the musical is equally as moving as the film. It features all the favourites like ‘Circle of Life’, ‘I Just Can’t Wait To Be King’, and ‘Hakuna Matata’, as well as a great original score. Tickets for Disney’s The Lion King are on sale now.
