Considered one of Alfred Hitchcock’s best works, ‘The Lady Vanishes’ is ranked as the 31st best British film of all time by Time Out. After several remakes, the film has now been transformed for stage in this new adaptation complete with a star-studded cast. Emmy award-winning actress Juliet Mills and her husband Maxwell Caulfield, star of ‘Grease 2’ (1982), ‘The Supernaturals’ (1986) and ‘The Boys Next Door’ (1985) will be leading this latest creation by the Classic Thriller Theatre Company.
The Lady Vanishes follows young socialite Iris, who discovers her travelling companion has gone missing. The plot thickens as fellow passengers deny she was ever there, leaving Iris to take on the role of detective and find out what has really happened. She enlists the help of musician Max to solve the clues of this unusual mystery.
The story described as a ‘quick-witted and devilishly fun thriller’ received instant praise from critics and audiences upon its release. Throughout the years, it has gained the status of a ‘classic’, where The BBC described it as a ‘craftily sophisticated thriller’ and The Guardian heralded it as ‘the greatest train movies from the genre’s golden era’.
