Making the rounds through Europe next summer, the legendary rock band have confirmed they will stop at Dublin and Belfast as well as travelling to Norway, Denmark and Croatia. The Foo Fighters will be predominantly touring the festival circuit, sparking rumours of being involved in the lineups for Leeds, Reading and perhaps even Glastonbury. But their Irish fans will be delighted with the two tour dates, as Dave Grohl and his band will return to Irish soil for the first time in four years.

The last concert by the ‘Best of You’ group took place in 2015 as they headlined Slane festival. Despite unpleasant weather, around 80,000 battled the wet and windy to see the former Nirvana drummer perform live, and Grohl certainly didn’t disappoint. Festival host, Lord Henry, described Grohl as a ‘pretty seminal figure’ referring to his time spent playing with the iconic grunge band that featured Kurt Cubain. He added: “He’s incredibly versatile and he’s played Slane before so he ticks all sorts of boxes and it was really important in my psyche – it gave me something to look forward to.” Having rocked Ireland at his last visit, the news of two upcoming concerts will no doubt have fans in a frenzy.

Dave Grohl founded the Foo Fighters in 1994, following the break up of Nirvana that transpired after the tragic suicide of Cubain. They released their debut album in 1995, and their latest ‘Concrete and Gold’ (2017) marks their ninth studio album to date. Many of their albums have received Grammys for Best Rock Album and the Fighters have topped the US album charts twice, including their most recent material. As powerful as ever, ‘Concrete and Gold’ featured inspiration from other rock legends such as Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, while also featuring vocals from Justin Timberlake and drumming from Sir Paul McCartney. The Irish gigs will likely feature a fantastic mix of fresh work with classic hits from the group.

Despite having played Glastonbury 2017 before, the strong fanbase and maintained success of the Foo Fighters could seem them back at the festival again. Their Irish dates have also encouraged debate over their potential attendance at Leeds and Reading, which would fall perfectly after (Leeds and Reading 2019 are scheduled for 22nd – 25th August 2019).

For now, the Irish dates are as follows:

  • 19th August – Vital Festival, Belfast
  • 21st August – RDS Arena, Dublin
