Frasier star and the voice behind The Simpsons Sideshow Bob Kelsey Grammer is following up his London debut last year with the lead role in Man of La Mancha at the London Coliseum in 2019.
Following his time in Big Fish at the Other Palace, Grammer will now be assuming the role of Miguel de Cervantes, in a unique play within a play as Cervantes acts out the tale of his novel Don Quixote to his fellow prisoners as he awaits a hearing with the Spanish Inquisition. Grammer, of course is well known for his role as Dr. Frasier Crane in Cheers and Frasier, as well as being an extremely talented voice actor. He's won five Primetime Emmy Awards, three Golden Globes and a Tony award, recently taking home a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in an Animated Program for his voice work in Guillermo del Toro's award-winning show Trollhunters.
Starring alongside him will be opera star and soprano Danielle de Niese, who will play Aldonza and Dulcinea. The Australian-American won an Emmy Award at age 16 for hosting L.A. Kids, going on to perform the song Vide Cor Meum in Ridley Scott's Hannibal in 2001 as well as appearing in the Broadway production of Les Miserables.
This production of the multi Tony-winning musical will be the first on the West End in over 50 years, bringing together producers Michael Linnit and Michael Grade for another collaboration following their time behind Chess, Carousel, Sunset Boulevard and Sweeney Todd at the Coliseum and the English National Opera. The show will be accompanied by the ENO's incredible 35-piece orchestra.
Man of La Mancha will run at the Coliseum from April 26th 2019 until June 8th, with de Niese set to appear in 33 performances during this time. Further casting is still to be announced.
