Last night, The Voice star Becky Hill was due to play the Manchester Academy as part of her current headline tour around the UK, but an unfortunate incident led the rising star to perform an impromptu set on the street.
Only half an hour after doors were to open, the Academy had to announce to hundreds of queuing fans that the show was cancelled due to a burst water main in the local area - but Hill had other ideas and followed up their announcement with one of her own:
"Manchester!! I'm so so sorry but tonight's show is cancelled due to a burst water pipe in the area & council are shutting the show down... (not my fault). But that will not stop me! Tonight was sold out & I'd really appreciate it if you guys could come down because I'm gonna sing on the fuckin' street!! Be there for 8:30 outside Manchester Academy!"
Unfortunately, due to a burst water main in the local area, we are unable to open for tonight’s @BeckyHill show. Apologies for the inconvenience, this is completely out of our control. We are trying to reschedule so please keep hold of your tickets. Further information to follow.— Manchester Academy🐝 (@MancAcademy) October 9, 2018

In a statement for the M.E.N, Hill explained that "I really didn't want to let everyone down and felt awful that this situation was completely our of our control. I still wanted to sing & see the people who sold out my show."
"The experience truly moved me & was a truly special moment. thank you to all that came, ill hopefully see you at the rescheduled date!"
Around 200 fans stayed to see Hill perform on the Manchester Academy steps.

In August 2017, Hill announced that she had signed a deal with Polydor records and would be releasing her debut album in 2018.
